The WHSG24701TG suits industrial Gigabit ports where the component temperature may fall anywhere between -40 °C and +85 °C.Typical uses are industrial and DIN-rail switches, ports inside outdoor enclosures, unattended cabinets and wide-temperature edge gateways. The WHSG24701TG is a single-port, non-PoE 100/1000 BASE-T transformer, so the port has to be powered locally and the centre taps cannot double as a supply path.
Note that -40 °C is the lower operating limit of the component, not a demonstrated cold-start capability for the finished product – low-temperature power-up still has to be measured with the target PHY and cable. Other options are listed in the100/1000 BASE-T range.
Because storage temperature describes an unpowered part in a warehouse, while operating temperature describes the component with the link running; the two are not interchangeable. The WHSG24701TG is specified from -40 °C to +85 °C in operation and from -40 °C to +125 °C in storage.
The extra 40 °C of headroom at the top of the storage range applies to bare parts and reels that are not powered up. Select the WHSG24701TG against the operating range, and use the storage range only for warehousing and shipping conditions.
Take the WHSG24701TG when the component may sit outside 0 °C to +70 °C, and theWHSG24701Gwhen it will not. That is the whole decision: the two share the same package, the same suggested land pattern, the same pin-to-net assignment and the same published electrical limits, and neither offers a PoE current rating.
The WHSG24701TG is additionally rated for storage to +125 °C. Where the port also has to carry power, neither part is suitable – send VOOHU the target wattage, current and temperature range and we will reselect.
