The WHSG24301G stands 2.50 mm at most over a body of 16.50 mm by 9.00 mm, which puts it in the low-profile class.That height lets it go into set-top boxes, slim access points, laptop docks and all-in-one units where board clearance is tight. Note that this is the limit on the component body: enclosure clearance still has to allow for stand-off after soldering and for board bow.
The WHSG24301G operates from 0 °C to +70 °C and carries no PoE rating, so the port has to be powered locally. Where the mechanics allow 2.85 mm, the wide-temperature part in the same package drops onto the same land pattern; the full list is in the100/1000 BASE-T range.
No. The datasheet assigns no DC balance current capability to the centre taps of the WHSG24301G, so they cannot be used as a supply path.The four centre taps come out on pins 3 and 4, 9 and 10, 15 and 16, and 21 and 22, named TXCT and TDCT, and should be terminated according to the reference design for the target PHY.
One point is easy to miss when checking margin: the open-circuit inductance minimum of the WHSG24301G is published without a bias condition, whereas theWHSG24002Gquotes the same minimum with a DC bias applied. The two do not sit on the same measurement basis and should not be quoted interchangeably.
Two things decide it: operating temperature and board clearance. Take theWHSG24301TGfor -40 °C to +85 °C, but allow 2.85 mm of height for it; the WHSG24301G tops out at 2.50 mm and covers 0 °C to +70 °C.This is not simply a commercial-versus-industrial pair – moving to the wide-temperature part costs 0.35 mm of height, which a slim enclosure may not have.
The suggested land pattern, lead span and pin-to-net assignment are identical value for value, as is every electrical figure, so the board itself does not change. Reel quantities differ between the two, so plan production against the figure for the part actually ordered.
