180° straight-through locking RJ45 connector options
A 180° straight-through locking RJ45 connector is a panel feed-through: it screws to the enclosure wall and joins an outside cable to an inside one in line, with a latch lock holding the mated plug. It is also called a locking RJ45 feed-through or locking RJ45 coupler. Body size, voltage rating and temperature range differ by part. Who makes them, which reach −40 °C, and how they compare with board mounting.
What is a straight through connector for?
Passing a link through a panel or bulkhead without terminating the cable inside the enclosure. A cable plugs into each side and the connector carries the link through the wall. It suits equipment where cabling is routed through rather than connected to a board.
Does it affect link performance?
It introduces a connection point in the channel, which adds an impedance discontinuity and some insertion loss like any join. On gigabit links within the standard length that is normally within margin. On higher speeds, count it among the connections the channel allows.
Does the locking work on both faces?
That depends on the part, and you should confirm from the drawing. Some designs lock on the outer face only, where vibration and accidental pulling are most likely. If both sides must be secured, check that explicitly before ordering.
How is it mounted?
Through the panel, with the fixing method and the required aperture shown on the drawing. Confirm the panel thickness the part accepts and, where the shell must carry the cable screen, how the mounting achieves a low impedance path to chassis.
