Selecting a QSFP28 connector, cage or assembly
A QSFP28 connector sits on the host board under a shielding cage, forming a 100G pluggable port at the front panel. You may also see QSFP28 cage, 100G QSFP28 cage or QSFP28 cage assembly. The range covers press-fit and solder cages, 1 x 4 ganged cages, 2 x 1 and 2 x 2 stacked versions and PCB connectors; many cages carry a heat sink. Ganged 1 x 4 cages
Four ports side by side fit one ganged cage. WHSFP36814W002 adds a heat sink; WHSFP36714W021 lists no heat dissipation feature, so read its drawing. Place a PCB connector under each port as the drawing shows.
Stacked ports with light pipes
WHSFP38221F014 (2 x 1) and WHSFP38422F020 (2 x 2) are cage-and-connector assemblies with light pipes and heat dissipation holes. WH81161Y21211 is a 2 x 1 cage with light pipes and a heat sink.
PCB connectors on their own
Where cage and connector are bought separately, the QSFP28 PCB connectors WHSFP35111D010 and WHSFP161C00021 are listed; take plating and mounting from their datasheets and confirm the pairing in both drawings.

Where QSFP28 connectors and cages go
QSFP28 is a common 100G pluggable format.
100G spine and leaf switches
Switch line cards with many 100G ports use stacked and ganged parts, such as the 2 x 2 assembly WHSFP38422F020 or the 1 x 4 heat sink cage WHSFP36814W002, to keep port pitch tight.
SmartNICs and accelerator cards
Adapter cards usually expose one or two ports at the bracket. A single-port heat sink cage such as WH81161Y00171, or WH591H009D1S20 with light pipes, suits them; check height against the bracket.
Routers and optical transport
Edge routers and transport shelves use 100G client ports, where 2 x 1 stacks such as WHSFP38221F014 or WH81161Y21211 save faceplate width. Their light pipes show port status on a dense faceplate.

Does a QSFP28 cage include the PCB receptacle?
A standalone cage and an integrated assembly are different items. The English catalog lists cages, PCB receptacles and cage-and-connector assemblies. Check the component type and supplied content for the ordered part.
Can 1×1 and 2×1 cages share a panel design?
Check the cutout, port spacing, height and retention separately; do not assume the same panel design.
How do I check a QSFP28 light-pipe option?
Confirm quantity, position, LED alignment and inclusion. Request a drawing if the catalog uses undefined symbols.
Does a QSFP28 cage guarantee a 100G link?
No. The cage is a mechanical and shielding component. The link also depends on the receptacle, module, PCB and system validation.
How do I submit a QSFP28 cage sourcing request?
Send the part, layout, receptacle pairing, heat-sink/light-pipe needs, sample or production quantity and timing.
Who manufactures these QSFP28 connectors?

Do I need a QSFP28 cage with heat sink?
It depends on module power, airflow and enclosure temperature. Cages such as WH81161Y00171 and WHSFP36814W002 carry one, while WHSFP38221F014 relies on heat dissipation holes. Run a thermal test with the planned modules and check the cage height in the drawing.
How does a QSFP28 cage differ from a QSFP-DD cage?
QSFP-DD is the double-density member of the family, listed for 400G on our QSFP-DD connector and cage page, while parts here are listed for 100G. Select each against its own drawings; do not assume one outline fits the other.
