Series overview

Selecting an EP10 PoE transformer

An EP10 PoE transformer is the power transformer of the isolated DC-DC stage in a PoE powered device, between the PD interface and the load rail. It is also listed as an EP10 PoE power transformer or DC-DC transformer. Parts here run from 5 W to 12 W with 5 V, 12 V or 13.5 V outputs. For 3 W or 15 W see EP7 PoE transformers, and for up to 30 W EP13 PoE transformers.

01

Output rails

ST1001WH, ST1007WH and ST1008WH are listed for 12 V, and ST1006WH, ST1009WH, ST1010WH, ST1011WH and ST1013WH for 13.5 V. ST0880WH, WH10P-50L and WH10P-50L2 cover 5 V. Treat each rail as a separate winding design.

02

Listed power

The 12 V parts sit at the low end: ST1008WH at 5 W, ST1007WH at 6 W and ST1001WH at 7 W. ST1013WH, WH10P-50L and WH10P-50L2 are listed at 10 W, and ST0880WH and the other 13.5 V parts at 12 W.

03

Current bands

ST0880WH, WH10P-50L and WH10P-50L2 are listed at ≥ 2 A. The 12 V and 13.5 V parts fall in the 0.41–1.0 A band. Read them as filters and confirm current and temperature rise on the datasheet.

04

Auxiliary supply

The controller often runs from an auxiliary winding on the transformer. When comparing EP10 parts, check whether the datasheet shows one, which side it sits on and the supply your controller needs from it.

Applications

EP10 PoE transformer applications

EP10 parts serve powered devices that need 5 W to 12 W from the converter.

Voice

VoIP phones and intercoms

Desk phones, intercoms and door stations often need only modest 12 V power. ST1008WH (5 W), ST1007WH (6 W) and ST1001WH (7 W) are the low-power 12 V candidates here.

Cameras

Cameras and access points at 13.5 V

Where a camera or access point design calls for 13.5 V, ST1013WH is listed at 10 W and ST1006WH, ST1009WH, ST1010WH and ST1011WH at 12 W, each in the 0.41–1.0 A band.

USB

USB devices and 5 V controllers

Boards that power USB ports or 5 V controllers need current headroom on the 5 V rail. ST0880WH (12 W) and WH10P-50L or WH10P-50L2 (10 W) are listed for 5 V at ≥ 2 A.

Sourcing

Ordering EP10 PoE transformers from VOOHU

VOOHU manufactures these parts in its own magnetics factory in Mianyang. Datasheets, 3D models and PCB footprints are published for the EP10 PoE transformers on this page for review before you request samples.

01

Samples and lead time

Samples are available for evaluation, and selected parts are free of charge. Our FAE team will be glad to confirm the options for your project. Send part numbers and quantities for a quotation; typical lead time is 7–10 days.

02

Alternatives to an existing part

If your design uses another supplier’s PoE transformer, send its part number and datasheet. Our FAE team checks the output rail, power, windings and footprint, then proposes EP10 alternatives to validate with samples before production.

03

Quality

VOOHU is ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified, and its PoE transformers are RoHS and REACH compliant (third-party test reports). Since 2018 VOOHU has supplied more than 1,500 customers, including 150+ listed companies.

FAQ & related guides

Your EP10 PoE transformer questions

Answers on manufacturing, the 5 V parts and how EP10 differs from a LAN transformer.

Are EP10 parts listed for 12 V and 13.5 V interchangeable?

These are different selector directions, not an interchangeability statement. Define the actual rail and its tolerance, then compare windings, rectification and feedback requirements. Assess parts such as ST1008WH and ST1010WH against their own complete documents; a common family does not establish identical output capability.

Is ST1009WH's AUX a second isolated main output?

The A0 winding diagram places AUX on the primary side at pins 3 and 4, with the main secondary on the opposite side at pins 7 and 5. Do not confuse their roles. State any controller auxiliary-supply voltage and current requirements for FAE review rather than assuming an additional output rail.

Does ST1009WH's 100 kHz test frequency define its operating frequency?

No. The 115 μH±10% inductance is measured at 100 kHz, 1 V and 25°C; the leakage measurement also requires the specified shorting of other pins. Switching frequency comes from the control design. Review input, operating mode and temperature rise rather than inferring suitability from a measurement frequency.

How should I assess EP10 replacements with the same voltage and power labels?

Start with the complete part number and revision. Compare input conditions, windings, auxiliary supply, measurement references and pins. Share the original documents and circuit through your sales engineer for FAE matching. Equal selector labels still require a circuit review and sample validation.

Will moving from EP7 to EP10 increase output power?

The family name alone does not establish that. Identify the existing limitation, such as temperature rise, winding loss, space or controller constraints, then compare the actual candidates. A package change may also require land-pattern and pin changes. Your sales engineer can coordinate an FAE comparison rather than treating the series number as a power rating.

Who makes the EP10 PoE transformers listed here?

VOOHU does. These EP10 PoE transformers are manufactured in VOOHU’s own magnetics factory in Mianyang, China, and each part number comes with a datasheet, 3D model and PCB footprint. Samples can be requested from this page.

Which EP10 transformer should I shortlist for a 5 V rail?

ST0880WH is listed for 5 V at 12 W, and WH10P-50L and WH10P-50L2 for 5 V at 10 W, each in the ≥ 2 A band. WH10P-50L and WH10P-50L2 share the same selector values, so compare their datasheets for winding and pin differences.

Is an EP10 PoE transformer the same as a LAN transformer?

No. The EP10 PoE transformer sits in the DC-DC converter and makes the supply rail. The LAN transformer at the RJ45 port passes the data pairs and carries PoE current through its center taps. A PoE device needs both; see LAN transformers for the data side.
