Series overview

WHYTA low profile molded power inductors by height

WHYTA low profile molded power inductors are thin, shielded SMD power inductors for DC-DC converters with little space above the board. They are also called thin molded inductors or low profile inductors. The range covers 4.4 × 4.2 mm, 5.4 × 5.2 mm and 7.0 × 6.6 mm footprints. Heights run from 1.0 mm (WHYTA0412 series) to 2.8 mm (WHYTA0530 series). Taller parts are on the WHYT page, a smaller footprint on the WHYTP page.

01

Footprint and height

On 7.0 × 6.6 mm, the WHYTA0624, WHYTA0618 and WHYTA0615 series stand 2.2, 1.6 and 1.3 mm tall. On 5.4 × 5.2 mm, WHYTA0530 and WHYTA0518 stand 2.8 and 1.6 mm; on 4.4 × 4.2 mm, WHYTA0420 and WHYTA0412 stand 1.8 and 1.0 mm.

02

Current in a thin body

WHYTA0618 lists 1.8–25 A IRMS and 2.3–38 A ISAT at 1.6 mm, and WHYTA0530 lists 3.2–25 A IRMS at 2.8 mm. The 4.4 × 4.2 × 1.0 mm WHYTA0412 series tops out at 7.5 A IRMS.

03

Inductance span

Values reach 22 µH in the WHYTA0624 and WHYTA0618 series and start at 0.1 µH in WHYTA0618, WHYTA0530 and WHYTA0420. WHYTA0412 covers 0.15–4.7 µH, so higher-value rails need a larger footprint.

04

DCR spread

DCR ranges widely inside each series, such as 2.3–350 mΩ in WHYTA0618 and 4–282 mΩ in WHYTA0420. Low values sit at the bottom of each range, so a high-current rail should use as little inductance as its ripple allows.

Applications

Where WHYTA low profile molded power inductors fit

Height limits come from shield cans, heatsinks, slim enclosures and stacked boards.

Under shields

Rails beneath shield cans

A buck converter under a shield can or beside a heatsink has little height to spare. As a thin molded inductor, the WHYTA0618 series fits at 1.6 mm and lists up to 25 A IRMS.

Thin modules

Plug-in cards and modules

Cards and modules with tight board-to-board spacing use the 4.4 × 4.2 mm parts: the WHYTA0412 series at 1.0 mm (0.15–4.7 µH) and WHYTA0420 at 1.8 mm (0.1–10 µH) for small point-of-load rails.

Core rails

Higher current in a low body

Processor and FPGA core rails that need low inductance at high current can use the WHYTA0530 series as the buck inductor: 5.4 × 5.2 × 2.8 mm, 0.1–10 µH, 3.5–30 A ISAT. Above 25 A IRMS, move to WHYT.

Sourcing

Ordering WHYTA low profile molded power inductors

VOOHU manufactures WHYTA inductors in its own magnetics factory in Mianyang. Each series has a datasheet in the downloads; 3D models and PCB footprints are not listed, so take the outline from the datasheet.

01

Samples and quotations

Samples are available for evaluation, and selected parts are free of charge. Our FAE team will be glad to confirm the options for your project. For a quotation, give the series, value, quantity and height limit; typical lead time is 7–10 days.

02

Replacing a thin inductor

Send the part number and datasheet of the low profile inductor you use now. Our FAE team compares height, footprint, inductance, DCR, IRMS and ISAT, then proposes WHYTA candidates to validate with samples before production.

03

Company and quality

VOOHU is ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified. Since 2018 VOOHU has supplied more than 1,500 customers, including 150+ listed companies. Every WHYTA series, from WHYTA0412 to WHYTA0624, is built in the same Mianyang magnetics factory.

FAQ

WHYTA low profile molded power inductor FAQ

Supply, current below 2 mm, and how WHYTA compares with WHYTP.

What is WHYTA for?

Designs where the height available over the converter is the binding constraint. Bodies go down to about 1.0 millimetre high on a 4.4 by 4.2 millimetre footprint, which fits under covers and in slim assemblies where the standard range will not. Inductance runs from 0.1 to about 22 microhenries.

What do I give up by going low profile?

Winding volume, which means higher DC resistance for a given inductance and lower current capability than a taller body of the same footprint. RMS current tops out around 25 amps across the range. If your load needs more, a taller body is required and the height budget has to change.

How low can the height go?

Down to about 1.0 millimetre on the smallest footprint. Above that the range steps through roughly 1.3, 1.6, 1.8, 2.2 and 2.8 millimetre heights across several footprints, so there is usually a choice within a given clearance. Read the exact dimensions from the datasheet.

Are low profile parts still self-shielded?

Yes. The molded construction encases the winding in magnetic composite regardless of the body height, so the shielding and the low audible noise behaviour carry across the whole family. What changes with height is the current capability and the DC resistance, not the construction.

How do I request samples or a quote?

With a complete part number, send the part number, quantity, delivery region and the date you need it. If you are still selecting, send the height clearance, output current, switching frequency and ripple budget, and a sales engineer will shortlist candidates.

Is VOOHU a manufacturer of WHYTA low profile molded power inductors?

Yes. VOOHU manufactures WHYTA low profile molded power inductors in its own magnetics factory in Mianyang, China. The same factory makes the WHYT and WHYTP ranges, so one supplier can cover a board that mixes heights.

Which WHYTA series carries high current below 2 mm?

The WHYTA0618 series: 1.6 mm high on 7.0 × 6.6 mm, with 1.8–25 A IRMS and 2.3–38 A ISAT. On smaller footprints, WHYTA0420 (1.8 mm) lists 1.6–13 A IRMS and WHYTA0518 (1.6 mm) lists 2.5–10.5 A IRMS.

How does WHYTA compare with the WHYTP compact molded inductor?

The WHYTP page lists a 3.4 × 3.2 × 1.8 mm body with 0.33–10 µH and 1.4–8 A IRMS. At the same 1.8 mm height, the 4.4 × 4.2 mm WHYTA0420 series lists 1.6–13 A IRMS, while WHYTA0412 is thinner at 1.0 mm.
