RMII to the host
The host port is RMII at a 3.3 V MAC interface voltage. RMII needs fewer signals than MII, keeping the processor link short; for an MII-only processor, see the JL5106.
Ethernet Interface Chip products
JL5104 provides three external 100M ports plus one RMII host uplink in a QFN48 package at 6 by 6 millimetres. It is the smallest configuration in the range that still lets the host controller take part in the network.

Port notation such as 5+1 means five external ports plus one host uplink.
Series overview
The JL5104 Ethernet switch IC links a host processor’s RMII MAC with three external 100M copper ports, so the processor and the attached devices share one network. Counting the host port, it is a 4 port Ethernet switch IC with RMII, in a QFN48 package and commercial or industrial grades. For five external ports, compare the JL5105 without a host port and the JL5106 with MII.
The host port is RMII at a 3.3 V MAC interface voltage. RMII needs fewer signals than MII, keeping the processor link short; for an MII-only processor, see the JL5106.
Each external port is 100M copper, and each port wired to an RJ45 jack needs its own magnetics; see our 10/100 Ethernet transformers. One port can take the network cable while two serve local devices.
JL5104C-NC and JL5104C-NI use a QFN48 package at 6 × 6 mm, small enough to sit beside the processor. The five-port JL5106 needs QFN64 at 9 × 9 mm.
JL5104C-NC is rated 0 to 70 °C for indoor equipment, and JL5104C-NI −40 to +85 °C for an industrial Ethernet switch IC in cabinets. All other selector values match.
Applications
Typical designs keep the processor on the network and add local ports.
A hub processor with an RMII MAC can reach the home network on one port and link a camera or controller on the others.
A set-top or media box keeps its processor online through RMII and offers spare copper ports for a TV, console or second box nearby.
Small controllers use JL5104C-NI, rated −40 to +85 °C, to join the plant network and daisy-chain I/O modules, leaving a port for service.

VOOHU’s published product content is reviewed by its engineering team. Specifications, downloads and technical support information are tied to specific part numbers, so you can verify them before requesting samples or a quotation.
Sourcing
VOOHU is an authorized JLSemi distributor. A datasheet (PDF) is published for each JL5104 part number, so you can check the RMII pins and package before asking for samples or a quote.

Samples are available for evaluation, and selected parts are free of charge. Our FAE team will be glad to confirm the options for your project. For a quote, send the part number and quantity, and we will confirm availability.
If you use another 100M switch IC today, send its part number and datasheet. Our FAE team compares host interface, registers and layout with the JL5104 and suggests candidates to validate with samples before production.
VOOHU is ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified. Since 2018 VOOHU has supplied more than 1,500 customers, including 150+ listed companies. Our FAE team supports JLSemi switch ICs and PHYs through design-in.

Three external 100M ports facing the network, plus one dedicated RMII uplink for the host controller on the same board. The uplink is what lets the host send and receive traffic. If your design does not need the host on the network, compare the JL5105 with five external ports and no uplink.
An RMII interface at 3.3 volts, matching the device's MAC interface voltage. RMII uses a shared reference clock, so confirm the clock arrangement from the datasheet as well as the interface itself. An MII host cannot be connected to this device without changing the part.
A 3.3 volt main supply together with a core rail around 1.1 volts. Both rails and their sequencing are stated in the datasheet. Omitting the core rail, or bringing the rails up in the wrong order, typically prevents the device from starting at all.
Two: the NC suffix covers 0 to 70 degrees and the NI suffix covers minus 40 to 85. Choose against the temperature inside the enclosure at the highest rated ambient, not the ambient the product sits in, because the board generates heat of its own.
With a complete part number, send the part number, quantity, delivery region and the date you need it. If you are still selecting, send the external port count, the host interface and the temperature range, and a sales engineer will confirm candidates.
Yes. VOOHU is an authorized JLSemi distributor and supplies JL5104C-NC and JL5104C-NI for prototypes and production. Our FAE team can also check the RMII connection and port circuit.
A single-port RMII PHY gives the processor one network port. The JL5104 connects to the same RMII MAC but provides three external 100M ports. If one port is enough, see our Ethernet PHY range.
Not on this page: the selector lists a datasheet (PDF) for each JL5104 part number, without a 3D model or PCB footprint. Draw the QFN48 footprint from the datasheet’s package drawing.
