Choosing an RJ45 dust plug
An RJ45 dust plug is a small insert that fills an RJ45 jack with no cable in it, so nothing settles on the contacts. It is also sold as an RJ45 dust cap, RJ45 dust cover or Ethernet port cover. Each plug here is listed for a single 1 x 1 opening. For the jacks, see our 8P8C RJ45 connectors.
Material and retention
The selector does not list material or how a plug is held in place, so compare the datasheet drawings before you choose, and ask our FAE team about anything left open.
Clearance around the port
Anything that stays outside the opening needs room. Load the 3D model of WH21102F00004 into your enclosure assembly and check the gap to neighboring ports, light pipes and hinged doors.
Empty ports only
A dust plug only protects an empty port; it comes out when a cable goes in. If the port must stay sealed with a cable mated, use our waterproof RJ45 connectors.

Any port that sits empty for weeks is a candidate for an RJ45 dust cover.
Spare ports in control cabinets
Switches and controllers in control cabinets often ship with more ports than a line first uses. A dust plug such as WH21102F00004 closes the spare openings until the line grows.
Maintenance and debug ports
Chargers, kiosks and vending machines often have an RJ45 service port that is only used on maintenance visits. An RJ45 port cover keeps it closed until a technician plugs in a laptop.
Units in transit and storage
Equipment can wait months before installation. An Ethernet port dust cover fitted at final assembly protects each open jack through shipping and storage, then comes out with the first cable.

When is a dust plug worth fitting?
In dusty, humid or outdoor installations, and anywhere unused ports stay exposed for long periods. Contamination on the contacts causes intermittent connections that appear well after commissioning and are difficult to diagnose, so the plug prevents a field problem rather than solving an immediate one.
Does it provide an ingress rating?
Not on its own. A dust plug keeps loose contamination out of the opening; it is not the same as a sealed waterproof connector with a stated IP rating. If your installation needs a formal ingress rating, use a connector designed and rated for it rather than adding a plug.
How is it retained?
Retention varies by part: some rely on friction in the opening, others use a lanyard or tab so the plug stays with the equipment when removed. Choose based on whether ports are opened during service and whether a loose plug would be lost or become a foreign object.
Will it fit any RJ45 jack?
Most standard RJ45 openings accept a standard plug, but check the drawing against your chosen jack, particularly with shielded or recessed housings where the opening geometry differs. Verify the fit on the actual connector before committing to volume.
How do I request samples or a quote?
With a complete part number, send the part number, quantity, delivery region and the date you need it. If you are still selecting, send the jack part number you intend to use, the installation environment and whether retention is required.
Is VOOHU an RJ45 dust plug manufacturer?
Yes. VOOHU manufactures RJ45 dust plugs in its own connector factory in Dongguan, China, where its RJ45 jacks are also made. You can sample the plug and the jack together and check the fit before release.
What temperature range does an RJ45 dust cap cover?
WH21102F00004 is rated −10 °C to +85 °C; the selector gives no range for SYTFCGRJ458PA1101276, so check its datasheet. Most VOOHU RJ45 jacks go down to −40 °C, so below −10 °C the plug may set the limit.
