3216 CHIP LAN Companion Magnetic Components

Compare WHLC-3216A-600M0 and WHLC-3216A-550M0 using the 60 µH and 55 µH options in the current datasheet. Evaluate these components with the PHY, data rate and coupling circuit. Package appearance or inductance alone does not establish interchangeability. Share a schematic for selection support or request samples for a known part number.

FAQ & related guides

Questions before design-in

These answers guide the page workflow. Part-specific engineering limits still come from the linked technical files.

How should I choose between the 55 µH and 60 µH parts?

They belong to different part numbers and data-rate groups in the datasheet; a 5 µH difference does not establish interchangeability. The 600M0 appears in the 1G group and the 550M0 in the 2.5G group. Review the PHY, electrical conditions and complete circuit.

Can WHLC-3216A-550M0 be used directly for 5G?

The reviewed datasheet explicitly lists a 2.5G group. The website’s 2.5G/5G field alone is not sufficient to promise 5G suitability. Share the PHY and circuit so engineering can confirm updated documentation or validation requirements.

Is the 3216 family a standalone Ethernet isolation transformer?

Do not assume that from the name alone. Confirm the component-function descriptions against the schematic and reference circuit. If the design requires a specified isolation test or replacement of complete port magnetics, provide those requirements so the structure and scope can be reviewed first.

Can I use a standard two-terminal 1206 footprint?

No. This family has specific terminals and a recommended land pattern. Use its drawing to check orientation, spacing and height before PCB layout.

What should I send for a 3216 replacement or sample request?

For replacement review, provide the existing part, datasheet or circuit image, plus PHY, speed and space constraints. FAE can help compare the differences. If the complete 600M0 or 550M0 part number is known, send the quantity and requested dispatch date for a quotation.

Engineer support

Continue after product selection

Send the candidate part number and the condition you need reviewed. Sample support can be added after the selection is clear; commercial questions may be discussed in the same engineering conversation.

For a replacement review

  • Original part and datasheet

    Include the document revision

  • Operating conditions

Temperature, isolation voltage and PoE current basis

  • Package constraints

Pin count, pitch and spacing between pin rows

  • Project stage and annual volume

To help prioritize samples and evaluation

  • Target review date

When you need candidates and a comparison of differences

Engineering review identifies candidate parts and explains the differences.

For samples and a quotation

  • Candidate part numbers

From the selector or engineering review

  • Quantity and project stage

Prototyping / pilot build / production

  • Required delivery date

Specify sample and production timing separately

  • Required documentation

Compliance documents, material declarations or third-party reports

Samples are free of charge. Sample quantity and lead time depend on the part number and project stage. Sales will respond on business days.
