WHAL9070A Common Mode Chokes
WHAL9070A is the largest body in the WHAL range, for lines where current and loss dominate the choice. Confirm the derated current at your ambient, and plan mounting and clearance early because the part will constrain the layout.

FAQ
Common mode choke questions engineers ask
Answers cover how the choke works, how to read impedance and where it belongs.
When does a part this size become necessary?
When the current the line carries, or the loss the design can tolerate, cannot be met by a smaller body. Large cores give more winding window, which allows thicker wire and lower DC resistance. If neither current nor loss is the binding constraint, a smaller part is easier to fit.
What does a large choke do to the layout?
It constrains it. Plan the position early, because the part sets the clearance to neighbours and to the enclosure, and it may dictate where the filter stage sits relative to the connector. Moving it later usually means re-running the conducted emission scan.
Are there assembly considerations at this size?
Yes. Heavier bodies place more stress on solder joints under vibration and during handling, and the thermal mass affects reflow if the part is surface mounted. Follow the datasheet's mounting recommendation and validate the process on real boards before volume build.
Does the impedance peak move with size?
Generally toward lower frequencies, because more turns and more core material increase inductance. If your emission failure sits in the upper part of the band, a very large choke may not be the best filter for it. Read the curve at your specific frequency.
How do I request samples or a quote?
With a complete part number, send the part number, quantity, delivery region and the date you need it. If you are still selecting, send the line current, the frequency band where your scan fails and the available board space, and a sales engineer will confirm candidates.
