Series overview
Picking an SFP28 connector or cage
An SFP28 connector and its cage form the host side of a 25G pluggable port. Most parts here are stacked cage-and-connector assemblies, also called SFP28 cage assemblies or stacked cages, from 2 x 1 up to 2 x 12; single-row cages run from 1 x 1 to 1 x 4. For 10G designs, see SFP+ connectors and cages; for 100G ports, see QSFP28 connectors and cages.
Plating on the assemblies
Most assemblies here list 30U connector gold and a Ni 50U shell, as on WHSFP32024F002 (2 x 4). WH39HR01SDCS01 (2 x 6) lists 15U gold and Ni 30U, so check plating per part when matching a BOM.
Light pipe arrangements
Many light pipe arrangements are offered, each marked by its own symbol set in the selector. WHSFP32522F002 (2 x 2) and WHSFP32424F002 (2 x 4) are examples; the drawing shows where each light pipe sits.
Single-row cages and connectors
Single-row cages include WHSFP30211W021 (1 x 1), WHSFP30412W012 (1 x 2) and WHSFP30614W039 (1 x 4), with WH391Y119D0S02 as a solder-mount 1 x 1. The PCB connectors WHSFP30111F002, WHSFP30111D002 and WH81-151-Y0003-1 list 30U gold.

SFP28 connector use in 25G systems
SFP28 ports carry 25G server, storage and wireless fronthaul links.
25G server-access switches
Leaf and top-of-rack switches with dense 25G downlinks use stacked cage assemblies such as the 2 x 12 WHSFP3222CF002 or the 2 x 8 WHSFP32228F002, both with light pipes for link LEDs.
Radio units and fronthaul gear
Radio units and fronthaul switches often need a few 25G ports in a warm, sealed box. Heat sink cages such as WHSFP30211W018 (1 x 1) or WHSFP30714W004 (1 x 4) help there; confirm in your thermal test.
25G NICs and storage adapters
Adapter cards place one or two ports at the bracket. The 1 x 2 cages WHSFP30412W009 and WHSFP30412W012 fit two ports side by side, and the 1 x 1 WHSFP30211W031 suits single-port cards.

Does an SFP28 cage automatically include a 25G receptacle?
No. Distinguish a standalone cage from an integrated assembly and confirm the connector and performance from the part documentation.
Can SFP28 and SFP+ use the same PCB footprint?
Determine this from the specific drawings and electrical requirements. Retention pins, board-edge position and high-speed layout may affect suitability even when outlines look similar.
Can a solder-tail SFP28 cage be reflow soldered?
Confirm from the part’s process specification. A solder-tail label does not establish reflow compatibility or provide a usable temperature profile.
How do I choose a cage with or without a heat sink?
Assess module power, airflow, height and thermal contact, and confirm whether the heat sink is included and how it is retained.
Must every parameter be fixed before requesting SFP28 support?
No. Start with the target interface, port layout, PCB/panel constraints and open questions so sales and FAE can help narrow the candidates.
Does VOOHU make SFP28 connectors in its own factory?
Yes. VOOHU manufactures SFP28 connectors, cages and stacked cage assemblies in its own connector factory in Dongguan, China. That includes large stacks such as the 2 x 12 WHSFP3232CF003, so a dense switch can take its port block from one supplier.
How do I choose between a 2 x 6 and a 2 x 12 SFP28 assembly?
Start from panel width and ports per board. A 2 x 12 part such as WHSFP3212CF002 covers the row in one piece, while 2 x 6 assemblies such as WHSFP32126F002 split it in two. Compare length, press-fit pattern and light pipes in the drawings.
Where do I find the SFP28 connector footprint and 3D model?
Search the part number in the downloads section. No separate footprint file is listed, so take the hole pattern from the datasheet drawing; most parts also have a 3D model for panel and enclosure checks.
