Spine Switch Reference Design
An illustrative Spine switch reference design for the data center / cloud layer of the five-layer network architecture: 32 × 400G QSFP-DD ports (8 QSFP-DD 1×4 ganged cages + 32 board connectors; 2 cages / 8 ports shown on the board view), 2 × 10G SFP+ in-band management ports, an out-of-band MGMT port and a Console port, dual hot-swap 12V supplies, and a switch SoC core powered by a multiphase VR with combined inductors. Illustrative 400G port topology: the TX / RX differential pairs of the switch SoC's 8 × 50G PAM4 SerDes (400GAUI-8) pass AC-coupling capacitors (fitted as the SerDes requires; QSFP-DD modules are already AC-coupled internally) to the QSFP-DD board connector (defined by the QSFP-DD MSA), with management signals and I²C (extended to 32 ports through I²C muxes) to the SoC; the module 3.3V is filtered by a VOOHU 0630 molded inductor, one per port. The 8 differential pairs are drawn as a single line.
