How to select

A practical selection sequence

Narrow the published fields in sequence, compare the remaining candidates and verify the part-specific files before design-in.

  1. 01

    Define the supply requirements

Record input range, output voltage, continuous load, startup needs, available space and thermal constraints.

  2. 02

    Review the driver and windings

Identify the driver IC or circuit, operating frequency and drive arrangement, then check turns ratio, center taps and pins.

  3. 03

    Compare electrical and mechanical requirements

Review isolation test conditions, inductance, DCR, leakage inductance and package. Confirm the required volt-time capability in the applicable document or with engineering.

  4. 04

Check the files and validate the candidate

Confirm document revisions and arrange sample testing. Request pricing directly for an identified part; have the FAE compare the original and candidate parts for a replacement project.

Key selection parameters

What each filter helps you decide

01

Turns ratio and center taps

Identify the stated pins and winding sections. An abbreviated ratio is not a regulated output-voltage specification.

02

Inductance

Check measurement frequency, voltage and the stated minimum or tolerance. Similar values can have different test conditions.

03

DCR and leakage inductance

Compare the specified winding, conditions and maximum or typical value. These figures alone do not establish power, efficiency or temperature rise.

04

Isolation test conditions

Check AC/DC, test voltage, duration and pins together. A single test-voltage figure does not establish operating voltage or an insulation classification.

05

Volt-time capability

Review it against the voltage applied to the winding and its duration. Submit your drive conditions for confirmation where the part document does not provide this parameter.

06

Pins and package

Check polarity dots, center taps, dimensions and land pattern. A matching outline does not establish electrical compatibility.

Category overview

Push-pull transformers in isolated DC-DC stages

These parts belong inside an isolated converter, which is what separates them from a complete power module.

01

A component, not a module

A push-pull transformer provides the isolated magnetic coupling in a converter topology. It is not a finished DC-DC module: no switching controller, no rectification, no regulation. You supply those. If you need a drop-in isolated supply, buy a module; if you are designing the converter, this is the part.

02

Turns ratio sets the output

The ratio between primary and secondary windings, with the input voltage and the topology, determines the output voltage before regulation. Parts with multiple secondaries have a ratio for each. Read each winding's ratio from the datasheet rather than inferring it from the part number, because notation varies between series.

03

Inductance and frequency work together

Primary inductance, switching frequency and input voltage together determine how far the core is driven each cycle. Running a transformer below its intended frequency pushes the core toward saturation. Confirm the frequency range from the datasheet and verify flux margin at worst case.

FAQ & related guides

Questions before design-in

These answers guide the page workflow. Part-specific engineering limits still come from the linked technical files.

How does a push-pull transformer differ from a complete isolated DC-DC module?

A push-pull transformer is a magnetic component used with a driver, rectification and any required regulation. Start selection with input/output, drive and isolation requirements, not just the target output voltage. If your supply design is defined, share the reference circuit and candidate part number.

How should I read the ratio of a center-tapped push-pull transformer?

CT means center tap. Locate the winding diagram and identify the stated pins, full or half winding sections and polarity dots before checking the actual drive connections. Ratio conventions can vary between documents; an abbreviated selector value does not replace the winding and pin check.

Do the input voltage and turns ratio determine the actual output voltage?

Those two figures alone do not guarantee the output. The driver arrangement, rectification, regulation and load also matter. Share the input range, required output voltage/current and driver IC or circuit so engineering can assess candidates, followed by loaded-output and startup checks in your circuit.

Does a 3000 VAC or 4000 VAC isolation test rating define continuous operating voltage?

No. Read the test voltage with its duration, AC/DC type and tested pins. It is not a continuous working-voltage rating or proof of an insulation certification. Define your working voltage and system insulation requirements separately, then select using part-specific documentation and engineering confirmation.

What should I provide for RS485/CAN, industrial auxiliary or gate-driver power selection?

Start with the application, input range, output voltage and load, then add the driver circuit, isolation requirements and space constraints. For RS485/CAN, identify isolated-side loads; for multiple auxiliary rails, explain their connection requirements; for gate-driver supplies, define the required rails. A shared application name does not establish a common transformer choice.

Can I look up a direct VOOHU replacement for another manufacturer's part?

Replacement matching is currently an engineering-assisted process. Contact your sales engineer with the complete original part number, datasheet revision, actual circuit and fixed mechanical or performance constraints. The FAE will assess candidates. Similar table values do not establish drop-in compatibility; electrical, thermal and layout validation is still required.

How do I request push-pull transformer samples, pricing or production quantities?

For a known part, send its complete number, sample or order quantity, project stage and destination directly to your sales engineer. You do not need to wait for an additional selection process just to request pricing. Price, MOQ, availability and lead time depend on the part and order. In-stock standard samples may ship from Suzhou as early as the same day once order and dispatch conditions are met.

Can I request a custom turns ratio or mechanical design?

Yes. Submit the input/output, driver and isolation requirements, target ratio and size limits for engineering assessment. If tooling is involved, the mechanical design, validation plan and expected quantity also need review. The design, cost, sample schedule and production lead time are confirmed after assessment.
