Typical application
The transformer isolates the PHY from the cable and couples the TX and RX differential pairs to the RJ45 jack.
Center-tap biasing on the PHY side depends on the PHY type (voltage-mode or current-mode).

Design notes
- 01Connect the center taps according to your PHY type.Voltage-mode and current-mode PHYs need different center-tap biasing; a mismatch can break auto-negotiation.Check with your PHY →
- 02Terminate the line-side center taps with a Bob Smith network.It gives common-mode noise a defined path to chassis ground and helps EMC.
- 03Add line-side surge protection for outdoor or long-cable ports.Residual surge energy through the transformer can still damage the PHY.Troubleshooting guide →
