FAQ LAN Transformer: WHSM24702P1

Can the WHSM24702P1 carry PoE on a 10G BASE-T port?

Yes. The WHSM24702P1 supports PoE up to 30 W, with each channel rated for 720 mA DC balance current. Its OCL is specified as 120 µH min at 100 kHz, 0.1 V with 14 mA DC bias, so the inductance figure already reflects a PoE operating point.

What operating temperature range does the WHSM24702P1 cover?

0 °C to +70 °C, including the part's own temperature rise. Storage temperature is -40 °C to +85 °C. For designs that must operate down to -40 °C, the WHSM24706C2 (PoE) and WHSM24707D0 (non-PoE) in the same 24-pin outline are rated -40 °C to +85 °C.

Can the WHSM24702P1, WHSM24706C2 and WHSM24707D0 share one PCB footprint?

They share the same outline and suggested pad layout, but they are not interchangeable. All three are 24-pin SMD parts at 1.27 mm pitch with the same body size and pin assignment. The WHSM24702P1 supports PoE 30 W (720 mA per channel) at 0 °C to +70 °C; the WHSM24706C2 supports PoE 90 W (1000 mA per channel, 2000 mA all channels) at -40 °C to +85 °C; the WHSM24707D0 has no PoE rating, is rated -40 °C to +85 °C and is hipot-tested at 3000 VAC. Control the part number in the BOM, because a mix-up will not show at assembly.
