FAQ LAN Transformer: WHSM24301G
What equipment is the WHSM24301G suitable for?
The WHSM24301G suits indoor 10G data ports where the component temperature stays between 0 °C and +70 °C. Typical uses are switch uplinks, server NICs, NAS units and workstation ports. The WHSM24301G is a single-port, non-PoE 10G BASE-T transformer, so the port has to be powered locally.
If the equipment must power up below 0 °C or work outdoors long term, move to a wide-temperature version. Other options are listed in the 10G BASE-T range.
Can the centre taps of the WHSM24301G carry current?
No. The datasheet assigns no DC balance current capability to the centre taps of the WHSM24301G, so they cannot be used as a supply path. Terminate them according to the reference design for the target PHY. If the port has to deliver power, move to a part in this range that carries a stated PoE current.
How do I choose between the WHSM24301G and the WHSM24P01G?
The WHSM24301G and WHSM24P01G are electrically equivalent, so the choice comes down to package and stocking rather than performance. Both are single-port, non-PoE 10G BASE-T transformers operating from 0 °C to +70 °C, and both quote crosstalk and common-mode rejection as -25 dB typ.
Where they differ is stocking and storage: the WHSM24301G ships 1500 pcs per reel and is stored from -40 °C to +85 °C; the WHSM24P01G ships 450 pcs per reel and is stored from -20 °C to +125 °C. They are different packages, so check outline and land pattern against each drawing before substituting one for the other.
