The WHSQ24002G suits indoor 2.5G and 5GBASE-T ports where the component temperature stays between 0 °C and +70 °C. Typical uses are multi-gigabit switches, wireless access point uplinks, NAS units and workstation ports. It is a single-port, 24-pin SMD transformer with no PoE capability, so the port must be powered locally.
If the equipment has to power up below 0 °C or sit outdoors, move to the wide-temperature version. Other options are listed in the 2.5G/5G BASE-T range.
No. The datasheet assigns no DC balance current capability to the centre taps of the WHSQ24002G, so they cannot be used as a supply path. Terminate them as the reference design for the target PHY requires.
Where the same footprint has to carry PoE current, move to a part in this range that does publish a per-channel figure, such as the WHSQ24015-1PG.
Decide on temperature first: take the WHSQ24002TG for -40 °C to +85 °C, or the WHSQ24002G where 0 °C to +70 °C is enough. The two share body size, suggested pad layout, pin-to-net mapping and every high-frequency limit, but they are not electrically identical.
The WHSQ24002G specifies 200 µH min open-circuit inductance against 150 µH min for the WHSQ24002TG, and their storage ranges differ as well. Re-check the margin against the figure for the part actually fitted rather than reusing the other one's.
