WHDG72303G or WHDG72301-1G — which one should be fitted?
Electrically and mechanically the two are the same part; choose purely by which side the common-mode choke should land on — the WHDG72303G puts it on the pin 1–18 and 19–36 side, the WHDG72301-1G on the pin 37–54 and 55–72 side.
Swapping after the design is fixed costs no footprint work, but the EMC test has to be repeated on the finished unit: the element order changed, and so did the common-mode path.
What are the wave-soldering conditions for the WHDG72303G?
Solder wave at 255 °C to 265 °C with a dwell of 3.0 to 5.0 s.
Preheat runs at 100 °C to 110 °C for 60 to 90 s; after the wave the part comes down below 90 °C within 30 to 50 s, with the ramp rate held to 5 °C per second. The WHDG72303G is a through-hole part and needs no line change beyond running this profile. Surface-mount alternatives sit in the 100/1000 BASE-T range.
Can the four ports of the WHDG72303G deliver power over the cable?
No. The WHDG72303G is a non-PoE part: its centre taps serve only as AC termination and common-mode reference and carry no DC supply current, so all four ports are powered locally.
A design that has to deliver PoE needs a part rated for per-channel DC current, chosen at selection time rather than worked around this one. PoE-rated options are grouped in the 100/1000 BASE-T range.
