Can the WHSG50015P0 be used in a dual-port 802.3at PoE industrial switch?
A

Yes – the datasheet states that the 720 mA current capability of the WHSG50015P0 is suitable for IEEE 802.3at, with a specified operating range of -40 °C to +85 °C. One point to settle early: the datasheet gives 720 mA as a Current Capability without marking it as per magnetic channel, per Ethernet port, or across both ports, the way other parts in this family do.

When budgeting port power, tell us the per-port current you are targeting and we will confirm the applicable scope against the current controlled document rather than having you assume a reading. The temperature ceiling already includes the component's own rise. Other options are listed in the 10/100/1000 BASE-T range.

The WHSG50015P0 has 50 pins but only 48 net names on the schematic — what are pins 13 and 38?

On the WHSG50015P0 schematic these two pins carry no net name, and they sit at the mid-point of each pin row, on the boundary between the two port groups. Until a controlled definition is issued, leave their electrical treatment open: do not default them to NC, to ground, or to a mechanical anchor.

If your board design needs a connection at those positions, request the current definition for this part number from us first.

The WHSG50015P0 and WHSG50002P1 have identical outlines — can they share a land pattern and be interchanged?

The WHSG50015P0 and WHSG50002P1 can share a land pattern but cannot be interchanged, because the pin-to-net mapping differs. Taking the first channel: on the WHSG50015P0, MCT1 is pin 50, MX1+ is pin 49 and MX1- is pin 48, while on the WHSG50002P1 the same nets fall on pins 49, 48 and 50.

The WHSG50015P0 also leaves pins 13 and 38 without a net name, whereas all fifty are assigned on the other part, and their PoE statements and temperature ranges differ. This is a same-footprint, different-definition pair, so build the BOM and netlist from each part's own schematic.
