Each magnetic channel of the WHSG24Z01C0 supports 1.5 A of DC balance current, and the four channels of the single port together support 3.0 A. The 3.0 A figure is the port total with all channels working together; it is not the rating of any individual centre-tap path, and it is not 1.5 A multiplied by four. Match the WHSG24Z01C0 to your target PSE/PD scheme against the actual current draw.
Route the four cable-side centre-tap paths for the intended PSE/PD topology, keeping the 1.5 A per-channel limit separate from the 3.0 A full-port rating. On the WHSG24Z01C0, the cable-side centre taps MCT1 to MCT4 are at pins 24, 21, 18 and 15. The chip-side TCT1 to TCT4 at pins 1, 4, 7 and 10 follow the PHY reference design and must not be connected to the PoE supply. Assign supply and return paths from the target PSE/PD schematic; do not join all four cable-side centre taps to one supply rail. Size copper for the actual path current, copper thickness and permitted temperature rise. The +85 °C ceiling includes self-heating, so the thermal design must keep ambient plus self-heating within that boundary.
Not on pin count and pitch alone: the WHSG24Z01C0 has a nominal body size of 19.90 mm × 13.00 mm and an 8.80 mm maximum height. Its 1.5 A per-channel and 3.0 A full-channel current capability must be considered alongside board area and height clearance. Compare the complete mechanical drawing, recommended land pattern and pin assignment with the existing design before substitution; on low-profile products, check the 8.80 mm height limit and mounting tolerances.
