FAQ LAN Transformer: WHSM24P01N0

What equipment is the WHSM24P01N0 suitable for?

The WHSM24P01N0 suits industrial 10G data ports where the component temperature may fall anywhere between -40 °C and +85 °C. Typical uses are industrial switches, 10G uplinks inside outdoor enclosures and wide-temperature edge equipment. The WHSM24P01N0 is a single-port, non-PoE transformer, so the port has to be powered locally.

Note that -40 °C is the component's lower operating limit, not a demonstrated cold-start capability for the finished product – low-temperature power-up still has to be measured with the target PHY and cable. Other options are in the 10G BASE-T range.

Does the WHSM24P01N0 need pre-baking, and what reflow window applies?

The WHSM24P01N0 ships as MSL 1, with a floor life of 0.5 year after opening at 30 °C or below and 60% RH, so no pre-bake is needed at normal line throughput. Set the reflow profile from the window the datasheet gives: above liquidus, 217 °C is held for 60 to 150 s.

The peak is 250 °C ±3 °C, with 20 to 40 s spent within 5 °C of it. Confirm any profile outside that window with us before running production of the WHSM24P01N0.

How do I choose between the WHSM24P01N0 and the WHSM24P01G?

Decide on component operating temperature: take the WHSM24P01N0 for -40 °C to +85 °C, or the WHSM24P01G where 0 °C to +70 °C is enough. Neither supports PoE and the electrical block is the same on both – same OCL, DCR, segmented insertion and return loss, crosstalk and common-mode rejection.

Storage differs: the WHSM24P01N0 is stored from -40 °C to +85 °C and the other part from -20 °C to +125 °C. Switching between them does not change the electrical design.
