How much PoE current can the WHSM24P03-2PG carry?
The datasheet states PoE Support 100W for the WHSM24P03-2PG, with 1 A of DC balance current per magnetic channel and 2 A across full channels. The 2 A figure is what the port carries with its two channels working together – not 1 A multiplied by the coil count, and not the rating of any single centre-tap path.
100W is the highest PoE wattage published on a datasheet in the 10G BASE-T range. Size four balanced copper paths against 1 A each. What a powered device finally receives is set by the whole power chain and does not follow from the magnetics rating alone.
The WHSM24P03-2PG stores down to 0 °C only — what does that mean for shipping and warehousing?
The WHSM24P03-2PG has a storage range of 0 °C to +85 °C, a lower limit far above the -40 °C common elsewhere in this speed class, so it belongs in the warehousing and logistics conditions. Unheated warehouses, long winter road transport and sea containers can all drop below 0 °C.
Plan receiving, transit and storage against that limit rather than carrying over the conditions of another part number. Operating temperature is a separate figure: judge powered operation of the WHSM24P03-2PG against 0 °C to +70 °C.
How do I choose between the WHSM24P03-2PG and the WHSM30101-2PG?
Choose on how the current is stated: the WHSM24P03-2PG gives 1 A per magnetic channel and 2 A across full channels, while the WHSM30101-2PG gives 1200 mA per channel with no full-channels total. If the power budget has to rest on a controlled port total, the WHSM24P03-2PG is the one that publishes it.
The packages also differ, 24-pin against 30-pin, so this is not a same-footprint choice but one to settle while the board is being laid out.
