Can the WHSG24R02C0 be used in an outdoor 70W PoE access point or PTZ camera?
Yes, but the -40 °C to +85 °C rating of the WHSG24R02C0 already includes the component's own temperature rise, so budget against ambient plus self-heating staying within +85 °C rather than reading it as an allowable ambient.
Which pins carry PoE current on the WHSG24R02C0?
The four centre taps: MCT1, MCT2, MCT3 and MCT4 on the cable side at pins 24, 21, 18 and 15, and TCT1 to TCT4 on the chip side at pins 1, 4, 7 and 10. Size all four paths evenly against the 720 mA per-channel figure – the 1440 mA full-channels rating is the total of the port's two channels, not headroom that can be concentrated into one or two traces. These pin numbers apply to the WHSG24R02C0 only; re-check the schematic on any substitution. Other options are in the 10/100/1000 BASE-T range.
Can the WHSG24R02C0 reuse an existing 1.27 mm 24-pin land pattern?
No. The WHSG24R02C0 has a 1.00 mm pin pitch against the 1.27 mm used by most 24-pin Gigabit parts in this range, so the land patterns are not interchangeable.
