Can WHS40005G and WHS40005TG be interchanged directly because their outlines and main electrical specifications are similar?

No. Both are quad-port 40PIN devices with 1.27 mm pin pitch and the same basic outline, but WHS40005G is rated for operation from 0 to +70 °C, whereas WHS40005TG is rated from -40 to +85 °C. Before substitution, compare the pin definitions, PCB land pattern, required temperature grade, reliability requirements, and prototype link-test results item by item.

Why must each port of WHS40005G be verified separately for link consistency in a four-port device?

Although the four ports share one package, each port has an independent magnetic circuit. From 1 to 100 MHz, insertion loss has a maximum magnitude of 1.1 dB, and both crosstalk attenuation and common-mode rejection have a minimum magnitude of 30 dB. Differences in PCB trace length, vias, connectors, and PHY termination can still produce port-to-port variation, so return loss, bit-error performance, and interoperability should be verified on every port.

Does the presence of center taps mean that WHS40005G can be used on a PoE-powered port?

No such conclusion can be made. WHS40005G is specified for non-PoE applications, and its technical data does not provide PoE current-carrying capability, temperature-rise limits, or compliance with a PoE power-delivery standard. A center tap is first a feature of the signal-transformer topology; it does not automatically indicate power-delivery capability. For PoE, select a model with an explicitly specified current capability and corresponding validation conditions.
