#1. Introduction to products of friendly merchants (TDK (EPCOS, TDK Group))

TDK B82801C2245A200 is a SMT current transformer belonging to the B82801C, EE 12.6 series, oriented to 50-500 kHz switching power supply current detection, feedback control, overload sensing and load loss/shutdown detection. This model has a 1:200 turns ratio, a secondary inductance of 22.4 mH (minimum, 100 kHz, 100 mV, 25°C), a maximum DC resistance of 0.28 mΩ on the primary side and 2.9 Ω on the secondary side, and a sense current of 40 A.

#2. Introduction to VOOHU alternative products (Suzhou VOOHU Electronic Technology Co., Ltd.)

WHPT-EF126-006 is also a SMT current transformer covering 50-500 kHz operating frequency and using 1:200 turns ratio. It has a minimum secondary inductance of 22.4 mH (100 kHz, 0.1 V, 25°C), maximum primary and secondary DC resistances of 0.28 mΩ and 2900 mΩ, a maximum current rating of 40 A, a voltage rating of 1500 V AC, and an operating temperature of -40°C to +125°C.

#3. Comparison of core parameters

The magnetic performance parameters of the two devices are close, but the electrical proximity does not mean that the packages are interchangeable. First, put the winding terminals, overall height and PCB pads into the same set of package coordinates for verification; only items that can be directly compared between the two parties are retained in the table.

  1. 1.The withstand voltage conditions are not exactly the same: TDK gives 50 Hz, 2 s; VOOHU only gives 1500 V AC. Insulation verification should be retested according to the frequency, duration and judgment standards specified by the project.
  2. 2.TDK's 40 A corresponds to a temperature rise of approximately +40°C on the primary side; VOOHU's 40 A is given at the maximum current rating, and the corresponding temperature rise conditions are not listed. Therefore, the two cannot be directly equated to the same thermal margin.
  3. 3.The effective pins and nominal recommended pads of the two devices are basically compatible. However, the maximum height of the second device is 10.5mm, which is higher than TDK's 10.0mm. There are also differences in local dimensions and tolerances. At the same time, the volt-second capability, 40A temperature rise and voltage withstand conditions are not fully aligned, so CAD stacking, sample reflow, load temperature rise and saturation verification still need to be completed before the mass production replacement can be confirmed.

#4. Applicable scenarios

  1. 1.Primary current sensing link in a 50-500 kHz switching power supply, using 1:200 turns ratio and 40 A current level for signal sampling.
  2. 2.Feedback control, overload sensing and load loss/shutdown detection circuit; check the load resistance, sampling voltage, primary side peak current and temperature rise when selecting.
  3. 3.There is already a supply chain or cost reduction evaluation for the B82801C2245A200 package. First complete the CAD overlay, pad verification, sample reflow and load measurement.
  4. 4.When selecting SMT current transformers in new designs, the insulation withstand voltage, mechanical height and reflow process window need to be evaluated at the same time.

#5. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can these two material numbers be directly replaced without changing the board?

A direct substitution judgment cannot be made based on this. Although the winding terminal identification and many electrical values are close, the maximum height is different from the recommended PCB pad outline; CAD overlay, pad and pin coordinate verification, sample reflow and load testing must be completed.

If the inductance, turns ratio and DCR are close, does that mean the thermal performance is also the same?

Doesn't mean. TDK associates 40 A with a temperature rise of about +40°C, VOOHU gives a maximum current rating for 40 A but does not list corresponding temperature rise conditions. The actual design should test the thermal margin according to the ambient temperature, primary side waveform and load resistance.

The withstand voltage is written as 1500 V AC, what else should we look at during verification?

In addition to the withstand voltage value, the frequency, duration and judgment criteria must be unified. The conditions of TDK are 50 Hz, 2 s; the insulation test should be re-completed according to project requirements before importing into VOOHU.

In what functional link are the two devices suitable?

Both sides are oriented to current detection, feedback control, overload sensing and load loss/shutdown detection of switching power supplies. The specific introduction still needs to be combined with primary side peak current, sampling voltage and PCB packaging boundary verification.
