It provides an additional magnetic suppression path for cable-side common-mode noise, improving the conditions for common-mode interference control without changing the basic connection of the differential data signal. Whether it is sufficient for the target EMC limit must still be verified with the RJ45 shield, chassis ground, Bob Smith termination, and complete board layout.

Which frequency-band limits should be used to accept the 10/100BASE-T signal performance of WHS16013LF?

Insertion loss from 1 to 100 MHz should have a magnitude no greater than 1.1 dB. Return loss should have a magnitude of at least 18 dB from 1 to 30 MHz, 14.4 dB at 40 MHz, 13.1 dB at 50 MHz, and 12 dB from 60 to 80 MHz. Crosstalk attenuation and common-mode rejection should each have a magnitude of at least 30 dB from 1 to 100 MHz. A single test frequency cannot represent the full band.

WHS16013LF and WHS16503G both include an additional common-mode stage. Can they be substituted directly?

No. Internal function alone is not enough. WHS16013LF has an approximately 12.80 mm × 6.90 mm body and a 5.65 mm height; WHS16503G is approximately 12.70 mm × 6.85 mm and 4.95 mm high. The schematic, pads, and pin orientation must also be compared pin by pin, and prototype link and EMC results must confirm the substitution.
