Series overview

Gigabit Ethernet transformer options at a glance

Gigabit Ethernet transformers, also listed as 1000BASE-T transformers or 10/100/1000 Ethernet transformers, sit between a Gigabit PHY and the RJ45 jack and serve all four data pairs of the copper port. This is the largest range in the LAN transformer family: SMD, DIP and low-profile SMD packages, single-, dual- and quad-port modules, commercial and industrial temperature grades, and PoE ratings from standard PoE to 4PPoE. For slower or faster ports, compare 10/100 Ethernet transformers or 2.5G and 5G Ethernet transformers.

01

24-pin single-port parts

Most single-port designs use a 24-pin LAN transformer in SMD, such as WHSG24701G. Where height matters, the low-profile WHSG24301G and its −40 to +85 °C version WHSG24301TG keep the same 24-pin layout.

02

Dual and quad-port modules

Dual-port parts such as the 48-pin WHSG48002G place two ports in one body. Quad-port LAN transformers such as the 96-pin DIP WHDG96503G suit multi-port switches; our quad-port selection guide compares the 72-, 88- and 96-pin footprints.

03

PoE, PoE+ and PoE++

PoE support is set part by part. WHDG96503G is listed for PoE up to 350 mA, and WHSG24719PTG is a PoE gigabit LAN transformer listed for PoE++ up to 900 mA; selected 4PPoE parts are rated higher still. Read the current per channel together with its temperature condition.

04

Temperature grades

Commercial 0 to 70 °C parts sit alongside industrial −40 to +85 °C versions; WHSG24301GM is rated −40 to +125 °C and WHSG24002GM −55 to +125 °C. A wide temperature rating on its own does not mean automotive qualification.

Applications

Where Gigabit Ethernet transformers are used

Any copper port that negotiates 1000BASE-T needs Gigabit magnetics between the PHY and the jack. Typical designs:

Networking

Switches, routers and access points

Managed and unmanaged switches use dual- and quad-port modules such as the 96-pin WHDG96503G to keep port pitch tight, while routers and Wi-Fi access points often use one single-port 24-pin part per port.

PoE

PoE switches and powered devices

PoE switches, IP cameras and access points need a Gigabit Ethernet transformer rated for the PoE class in use, for example WHSG24706-1PTG for PoE+ or WHSG24Z01C0 for 4PPoE.

Industrial

Industrial Ethernet and high-isolation ports

Industrial switches, controllers and gateways use −40 to +85 °C parts. Where a port needs more isolation, WHSG24R03D0 is rated 3,000 Vrms and WHSG24701D1 5,000 Vrms.

Sourcing

Buying Gigabit Ethernet transformers from VOOHU

VOOHU is a manufacturer of LAN transformers, with its own magnetics factory in Mianyang. Datasheets and 3D models are published for the Gigabit Ethernet transformers on this page, most with a PCB footprint as well, so you can shortlist parts here and then request samples or a quotation.

01

Samples and quotations

Samples are available for evaluation, and selected parts are free of charge. Our FAE team will be glad to confirm the options for your project. For a quotation, send the part numbers, quantity and target production date; typical lead time is 7–10 days.

02

Gigabit LAN transformer replacement

To replace an imported Gigabit LAN transformer, send its part number and datasheet. Our FAE team compares the pinout, turns ratio, PoE rating and footprint, then suggests VOOHU replacement candidates for you to validate with samples before production.

03

Quality and compliance

VOOHU is ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified, and its LAN transformers are RoHS and REACH compliant (third-party test reports). Since 2018 the company has supplied more than 1,500 customers, including 150+ listed companies.

FAQ & related guides

Questions about Gigabit Ethernet transformers

Answers on port count, PoE, temperature, datasheets and ordering. Part-specific limits always come from the datasheet.

Do all Gigabit transformers also support 10 and 100 Mbps?

The Gigabit label alone does not establish support for every lower-speed mode. Check the individual transformer datasheet, target PHY and reference circuit. Descriptions such as 100/1000 or 10/100/1000 must be confirmed per part rather than inferred from the range title.

How do single-, dual- and quad-port Gigabit transformers differ in selection?

Port count describes how many network ports a module serves and affects its internal structure and board layout. Each 1000BASE-T port uses four data pairs. Do not treat pin count or an unspecified channel count as the number of ports. Check port grouping first, then the connections, PoE and layout for each port.

Is there a Gigabit transformer option rated for operation up to 125°C?

The published WHSG24301GM datasheet lists an operating range of −40°C to +125°C. Review its dimensional and electrical data against your PHY and PCB. That temperature range alone does not establish automotive, military or other qualification, and it is not a rating for the entire Gigabit range.

Does the 3000 mA figure for WHSG24Z01C0 apply to each winding?

No. Its datasheet distinguishes 1.5 A DC balanced current for each channel from 3.0 A for the full channels of one Gigabit port. Do not apply 3.0 A to each pin or winding, or use it alone to calculate system power. Review temperature rise, the PSE/PD architecture and actual current paths.

How can I assess a VOOHU alternative to an existing Gigabit transformer?

Share the existing manufacturer and part number, target PHY and known PCB constraints. We review pins, center taps, turns ratio, package and electrical conditions, then identify differences requiring validation. Matching dimensions are not a drop-in guarantee. If you already have a VOOHU part selected, you can request samples or volume pricing directly.

Is VOOHU a Gigabit Ethernet transformer manufacturer?

Yes. VOOHU manufactures LAN transformers, including the Gigabit Ethernet transformers on this page, in its own magnetics factory in Mianyang, China. Datasheets and 3D models are published for these part numbers.

What is the difference between a Gigabit Ethernet transformer and an RJ45 jack with integrated magnetics?

A discrete Gigabit Ethernet transformer sits on the PCB between the PHY and a plain RJ45 jack, so the magnetics and the jack can be chosen separately. An RJ45 jack with integrated magnetics, often called a MagJack, combines both in one part; compare them on our RJ45 network connector pages.

Where can I download a Gigabit LAN transformer datasheet?

Use the file finder in the downloads section: search by part number to get the datasheet, 3D model and PCB footprint. The datasheet shows the schematic, dimensions and electrical limits you need for design review.
